Release Notes

CuttingEdge.Logging is a library that helps the programmer output log statements to a variety of output targets in .NET applications. The design is based on the .NET 2.0 Provider Model. This means the library uses the same configuration and extensibility model and .NET developers should very fast feel very familiar with CuttingEdge.Logging.

This new release has one small bug fix and several new features. The biggest new features are the ability to use an alternatively named configuration section and the addition of the TerminatorLoggingProvider and CompositeLoggingProvider.

New features
  • A facade for the Common Infrastructure Libraries for .NET a.k.a. Common.Logging has been added. This facade is still in beta.
  • Configuration can now use an alternatively named configuration section name (work item 5109).
  • A new TerminatorLoggingProvider added (work item 4845).
  • A new CompositeLoggingProvider added (work item 4844).

Bug fixes
  • Exception message contained invalid example configuration. The exception thrown in the situation where the <logging> section was missing or didn't contain a 'defaultProvider' attribute, contained an example configuration that was invalid. The <providers> tag was missing.

Breaking changes
  • The obsolete LoggerWrapper class has been removed from the library. The LoggingWrapper class has been marked obsolete since v1.1 and has been flagged as compile error since v1.1.5. Therefore for users migrating from v1.1 this is both a binary as code breaking change. For v1.1.5 users this is only a binary breaking change. Please recompile the projects dependent on CuttingEdge.Logging if you're not sure whether you reference the LoggerWrapper class from code.

Note: The release contained a bug that prevented the library from being used in a web environment. This release fixes this. This release replaces the previous release.
