Release Notes

CuttingEdge.Logging is a library that helps the programmer output log statements to a variety of output targets in .NET applications. The design is based on the ASP.NET 2.0 Provider Model. This means the library uses the same configuration and extensibility model and .NET developers should very fast feel very familiar with CuttingEdge.Logging.

This new release fixes some bugs, and adds a new provider, the MailLoggingProvider.

Bug fixes
  • WindowsEventLogLoggingProvider now also logs the severity of the event to the event log.
  • Using CuttingEdge.Logging always resulted in the loading of the System.Web assembly. System.Web is now only necessarily when using one of the providers of the CuttingEdge.Logging.Web namespace.
  • When initialization failed, the LoggingProvider didn't wrap a possible inner exception that described the real problem.

Code changes
  • A new MailLoggingProvider has been added. It's a simple provider that uses the <> configuration from the application configuration file to send events by mail.
  • A LoggerExtensions class added containing extension methods for the ILogger interface. These extension methods replace the LoggerWrapper class which is now marked as obsolete. For this change a reference to System.Core (.NET 3.5) had to be added. Officially, the project is now dependent on .NET 3.5, but it will still run on .NET 2.0. When adding the assembly to a .NET 2.0 project just ignore the warning by choosing "Yes".
